Staphylococcus Selective Agar, manufactured by BABIO, is a high-performance microbiological medium designed to isolate and differentiate staphylococci based on mannitol fermentation and pigment formation. This essential tool in food hygiene detection and microbiological testing uses sodium chloride to inhibit non-staphylococcal bacteria, ensuring optimal growth conditions for staphylococci.

The medium includes D-mannitol, a critical carbohydrate source that allows coagulase-positive pathogenic staphylococci to ferment, producing acid that changes the agar color for easy identification. The resulting yellow-orange colonies of pathogenic staphylococci provide a clear visual cue for differentiation. This selective agar is ideal for detecting pathogenic bacteria in food and clinical samples.

For reliable results, Staphylococcus Selective Agar should be prepared by suspending 102g of the medium in one liter of distilled water and autoclaving at 121°C. The prepared medium should be stored at 2-8°C and used within its three-year shelf life.
